TORONTO (Ticker) -- David Purcey struck out seven over eight outstanding innings as the Toronto Blue Jays extended their season high winning streak to eight games with a 1-0 victory over the struggling Tampa Bay Rays.
Purcey (3-5), who dropped a 1-0 decision in his last meeting with the Rays, reversed it this time around, giving up just six hits and three walks. Rod Barajas' second-inning sacrifice fly was the only offense the Blue Jays needed.
The eight-game winning streak is the Blue Jays' longest since April 14-22, 1999. The Rays, on the other hand, have now dropped five of their last six.
Matt Garza (11-9), who was the victor in the August 27 win over Purcey and the Blue Jays, gave up just one run and six hits in a losing effort. He struck out seven and walked one.
Blue Jays lefthander Jesse Carlson pitched a perfect ninth inning for his second save.
